Historic Conference Convened to Address Global Problem of
Missing, Abducted, and Sexually Exploited Children

"Crossing Borders to Protect the Children of the World"
Cairo, Egypt-19 February 2009

The Suzanne Mubarak Women's International Peace Movement (SMWIPM) in partnership with the International Centre for Missing and Exploited Children (ICMEC) convened a conference "Crossing Borders to Protect the Children of the World" on 19 February 2009. The meeting was hosted in Cairo, Egypt by Her Excellency Mrs. Suzanne Mubarak, the First Lady of Egypt who is also a member of the ICMEC Honorary Board.

The agenda for the conference included presentations on child protection issues including Cyber Safety, Model Legislation Against Child Pornography, and Family Law. Presenters included: H.E. Suzanne Mubarak; Nevine Tewfik, Deputy Director of the International Relations Division of the Egyptian Ministry of Communications and Information Technology; Timothy Cranton, Associate General Counsel for Worldwide Internet Safety, Microsoft Corporation; Ambassador Moushira Khattab, Secretary General of the National Council for Childhood and Motherhood; William Duncan, Deputy Secretary General of the Hague Conference on Private International Law; Justice Adel Omar Sherif, Deputy Chief Justice of The Supreme Constitutional Court of Egypt; Baron Daniel Cardon de Lichtbuer, Chairman of the Board of ICMEC; Ernie Allen, President and Chief Executive Officer of ICMEC; Nancy Dube, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of ICMEC.

Also attending the conference were the members of ICMEC's Honorary Board, which was established in 2004 to address the worldwide problems of missing children and the sexual exploitation of children including the global problem of Internet child pornography.
