Cairo 2009

Crossing borders to protect the children of the world

On 19 February 2009, first ladies, dignitaries and child protection experts gathered with us in Cairo in a meeting Le Figaro called “the G-8 for children.”

“Each child has the right to be protected from any form of violence, abuse or neglect and to enjoy all rights without any discrimination.”Cairo Declaration

Participants reviewed the progress that had been made in combating the exploitation of children, and agreed on the priority areas in which more intensive work needed to be done. This included attacking the problems brought on by the Internet, and engaging technology leaders worldwide to help combat the criminals who exploit children.

The meeting also resulted in the Cairo Declaration, a call to action to protect the rights of children around the world. The Declaration is available in Arabic and English.
